I've decided to shut down this blog. There's not really a reason why I can't post my crafty projects on my regular blog and it would simplify a lot of things for me. Check here on Sunday for the drama of ruffle pants for Tillie.

I got this pattern/tutorial earlier this spring. I hadn't got a chance to use it until now. This is a great tutorial. It's super-easy to follow and just makes sense. Plus, it's adorable.

Oh, what was that? You need pictures as proof? Well, I've got them. I got Tillie all dressed up in it and then realized the good camera was still at Camp. KodakEasyShare pictures it is!

I wish I hadn't cut her hair off in this picture.

And best of all, it's reversible.

Christmas in July! (or August...)

At Camp we have a Christmas in July homemade gift exchange. I decided to make my recipient a bag. After perusing Etsy for patterns, I decided on the June Bag from MayAndMae. The pattern was a little more difficult and involved than I was planning on, but it's a darling little bag. I'm kind of sad I couldn't keep it.

I used fusible fleece and I made a button hole! Yay for learning new things!

It even has a back pocket.

I love long straps on bags.

The best part about sewing projects is picking out the fabric.

My cousin had a custom order for a baby gift for a friend. I'm actually sad I had to give this away. It was too cute!

Tim drew the bird for me, and I'm pretty sure I'll be making one for Tillie soon! I love the little ricrac legs. I added Fray Check to the ends after I took this picture.

I couldn't make my normal skirt since it was for a 0-3 month size. My first attempt actually fit Tillie's Bitty Baby.

Last week after Tillie's birthday party, I added pictures of her outfit to the Crap I've Made Flickr group. Much to my surprise, it was featured on her blog today!

Birthday Bloomers

She's not one yet, but her party was today.

I made her a "1" onesies, bloomers, a fabric covered party hat and a clippie.

These were my second pair of bloomers, but they still weren't as big as I was planning. She had to wear a disposable diaper for them to fit.

The best part about having a party a week early is that she gets to wear it again next week Friday!

My friend Lure is having twins! Her last name means peacock, so I new from the start that I would be making a peacock onesie. After her 20 week ultrasound I learned I would have to make two. Shopping for coordinating fabric was fun.

In a few months we'll meet the little boy and girl!

Tulip Time is Coming

When I went to the Dutch Costume Sale in Holland I bought a costume for Tillie. Kizie was with me, but costumes in her size were over $50. That's just a little too much for me. So, I decided to make her one. Now, it's not authentic in the least. (Apparently neither is Tillie's as the rude salesperson at Field's in Holland commented while I was shopping for fabric. She also just picked Tillie up out of the stroller. Yeah. Guess which location I won't be going back to?) But, she clearly looks Dutch to me!

Next time I'll make the skirt fuller. You can't see it, but the fabric and the trim both have tulips on them.

And Kizie is very happy. That's all that matters to me.

Lazy Days Skirt.

Since my bloomers didn't pan out how I had planned. I decided to make Tillie a skirt. Oliver and S offers a free pattern online, so I decided to try it.

I think it turned out pretty cute and it was super-easy.

I think I'll use the same idea when I'm making Kizie's Dutch costume. Yeah, I don't know how that's going to turn out either...

Sewing friends(especially in the Grand Rapids area), I have a request. I'd love to make Tillie something to match her Urban Baby Bonnet.

But, I can't find the fabric anywhere locally. (Or online from the same vendor.)

The polka dot birds is from Tina Given's 'Fairy Tip Toes' line and the item number is TG-66 Pink. (It's on the Smith Owen website, but when I went there they didn't have it.)

The other is from Amy Butler's 'Lotus - Tea Box' line. Its item number is AB-20 and is called Pink/Temple Garden. You'd think this could be found at Field's, but they seem to have every Amy Butler fabric but that one.

I'm also looking for a reversible popover pinafore pattern, like this one. I'm not opposed to buying one online, but I'd love to buy it locally. If anyone has any ideas or sources, please let me know!

Last night I just had the sewing itch. Ever since I first read my friend Kate's post last summer, I wanted to make Tillie some bloomers. They're just the cutest thing ever. We had two pairs from Old Navy for my sister Kizie. She looked darling in them.

So, I made some for Tillie after she went to sleep.

And, they're too small.
(But very symmetrical. This picture doesn't show that I actually did a good construction job.)

They definitely won't fit over her cloth diaper, I had to switch to disposable just to take her picture. I'd say they're a 3-9 month-ish size.

She wasn't the happiest model this morning.

Today we'll go to the fabric store to see if they have the Amy Butler fabric that will match her new bonnet. Sometime next week I'll try my hand at a bigger size bloomers. These will be packed away for a future girl baby.

With the temps reaching 50*+ recently, I haven't gotten much sewing done. I suspect it will be that way for a while. If you do have a special order, please contact me. But, I probably won't be posting anything here for a while. (Unless we get a rainy week!)

Camp Clothes

Most of you know that Tillie is my first/only child. This is great for my shopping habit -- she needs everything! It's not so great for Camp in the summer. She'll be crawling, maybe walking in the dirt for about a month this summer. I plan on hitting some garage sales later this Spring to find some good play clothes.

I did get a little head start. I found this skirt at Target for around $1. She definitely needed a new acorn shirt, so I decided to go girly this year!

Oh, a non-white shirt would have been better you say? I agree, but this was cheaper. (As, I already had it in her closet.)

While we were at the thrift store looking for items for a costume party we're going to, I found this cute little red skirt. At only 99 cents, I thought it would be great for camp. I found this (again white!) t-shirt in my stash of things to sew on.

I had a birthday boy request and it gave me an excuse to finally try out the cupcake I'd been thinking about.

My mom also wanted one for a granddaughter of one of her friends. I thought the cupcake was pretty cute, so I made a girly one this morning.

Yes, Tillie will be getting a cupcake like this for her birthday party, She needs it, don't you think?

More Shower Gifts

Robin had a special order of two onesies for a friend of hers. These onesies will be going to a little boy to be named A.J.

I know. I thought it was cute as a bunny, but after I made it into a tie I went back to the fabric store and bought the last 1.5 yards they had of this argyle.

I love how crisp this aqua blue looks on white.

Initials on the booty? It's the kind of thing only a baby can get away with.

They're in the mail on their way to Robin. I hope she, and the mom-and-dad-to-be like them!

Shower Gifts

Bunnies, Bunnies Everywhere.

Last fall when I found out that friends of ours were expecting a girl, I made them a bunny onesie.

A couple weeks ago, I received a special order for another bunny. This one is going to a little boy for Easter. They also asked if I could add a pom-pom tail. Why didn't I think of that?! Of course.

I wanted to make sure I made it look "boy" enough, since bunnies can sometime be girly. I found the perfect manly fabric in my stash.

Valentine's Day, that is. I love Christmas, but the big heart day rates pretty high up there for me.

I think it has a lot to do with my mom. Every February 14, my mom has given me, my brothers and my sister a gift. I've never thought of Valentine's Day as a romantic love holiday. I use it as a day to show my love for all my friends and family.

One of my favorite things to do is dress in red or pink (or both!) for the entire week leading up to the holiday. Yes, that's how much I love it. I've already started collecting red and pink things for Tillie to wear. Of course, I'm going to need to make her a new onesies. (She's also going to get this adorable bodysuit.)

Some friends of mine were lamenting the lack of cute boy v-day outfits. A lot of them are just too girly for them. But, a tie onesie? In a red, pink or heart print? That might be just the thing they were looking for. This weekend, I'll be working on making some <3 day tie onesies. Check the shop for them next week.

Let's start at the very beginning.

It is a very good place to start.

About a year ago I was 5 months pregnant. I did a lot of shopping online and noticed some adorable onesies with appliques on them. I was particularly drawn to one with an acorn on it. My husband works at a camp whose logo includes an acorn. It was almost a requirement for me to like them after we were married. I also like an acorn because it would be appropriate for a girl, or a boy. We didn't find out the sex of our baby.

The more I thought about it, the more I figured I could make them myself. I pondered it for a while. After a month or so, I asked my mom if she could bring over my grandma's old sewing machine.

In April, I made my first two onesies.

I'd have to like you a whole lot to make a preemie onesie with a tiny applique on it. It's pretty small.

I've since gotten better and make one for Tillie in each size. I was proud of my little creations and started posting them in a facebook album. Everyone encouraged me to start and etsy shop. I thought I'd start small and get some made for a craft fair next fall. But, what the heck. Here we go!

I have my first custom order for a lovely friend in California. I hope they turn out well. Custom orders kind of scare me, I'd rather they saw the finished project before money is handed over.
